Alpe d'Huzes
Alpe d'HuZes is a unique sporting event where as much money as possible is raised for cancer research and for improving the quality of life of people with cancer. On a single day, 5000 participants will bike, hike or run the Alpe d'Huez. Attempting a maximum of six climbs, under the motto 'giving up is not an option'. The race day is always on the first Thursday in June and is part of a complete week, which is being prepared for a full year. A special week full of solidarity, in which cancer is openly discussed for everyone. The 21 turns of the Alpe d'Huez will be climbed for the fifteenth time.
This annual Dutch charity event will raise money and awareness for the Dutch Cancer Society (KWF) in the fight against cancer.
Each year thousands of people enter the event and each person has to raise a minimum value of 2,500 Euros to have the chance to ascend the mighty Alpe d’huez as many times as they can within the same day (sometimes more than six times) either by cycling, running or walking.
The name Alpe d’Huzes is word play using the d’Huzes to signify the number six (“zes” in Dutch) and their Moto is “Quitting is not an option”
