Location: Les Deux Alpes
This downhill mountain bike competition starts at 3200m altitude on the 2 Alpes glacier and finishes in les Deux Alpes ski resort. The descent is around 2500m over 25km.
The aim is simple to descend as fast as you can to the finish line, the tricky part is staying on your bike as the route starts on ice/snow and then contunues on gravel tracks. Qualifying is normally held on the Saturday and the finalists race on the Sunday.
Within the resort there are many other things to do if you have some spare time like swimming, para-gliding, watch a film at the cinema or use the sports centre.
The medieval village of Venosc is worth a visit which is just a short cable car journey below the resort.

In Les deux alpes it is possible to Ski and snowboard on piste here for much of the year as the resort opens the glacier over the summer from mid June to the end of August, again at the end of October for a few weeks (snow dependant) and then the whole ski resort opens as the winter season starts from the beginning of December until late April.
The 2 Alpes glacier above the resort has an altitude of 3,600m which means that there is generally a good snow covering even in the worst winters for snow cover. There is also plenty of off-piste choice especially over the other side of the glacier skiing down to La Grave with its unmarked pistes if that is more to your taste.
