Tour de France 2017

The Tour de France is an iconic cycling race that has been held in France annually for more than 100 years. Surely one of the most physically demanding events in the world; the various teams will cycle around 3500km over a three week period with only a few rest days. Each year the organisers select different routes within various areas of France and the neighbouring countries to create the toughest, exciting course possible which always finishes in Paris at the Champs-Élysées.

This year the tour will start on July 1st in Düsseldorf Germany and will consist of 21 stages covering 3,521km and finishing on July 21st in Paris at the Champs-Élysées

Stages 16.17 & 18 will be in and around the Isere and Haute Alpes departments of France as follows:

Tuesday July 18th : Le Puy-en-Velay to Romans-sur-Isere : 165km

Wednesday July 19th : La Mure to Serre-Chevalier : 183km

Thursday July 20th : Briancon to Izoard : 178km

There are some serious mountain climbs around this area including Col du Galibier, Col de la croix de fer and Izoard which surely will have an influence on the overall winner.
